Panasonic ER421KC Nose and Ear Hair Trimmer, Wet/Dry, Lighted
Look, having to trim the hair in your nose is kind of embarrassing, and just a bit gross. It is a lot less embarrassing to do this in the privacy of your bathroom, then to be talking to someone and having all of their focus being on the errant hairs sticking out of your schnoz. It is like having a booger; you would wipe up the booger, so trim the damn upside-down forest coming out of your nostrils. I had one before that would need oiling and new batteries and a bit of prayer to work. This one is water proof, silent, and tremendously effective. It also has a useless flashlight on it. Buy it yourself, or for the man/hairy woman in your life. Definitely worth it.
Ghost Town
Apparently Ricky Gervais didn't want to participate in any movie that he didn't have complete control over as his follow up to The Office and Extras. Since nobody would let him do this, he eventually broke and did this movie. It is a pity, because it is a thoroughly by the numbers romcom, with the leads getting on almost instantly once they meet, the wrench thrown in the works being that Gervais is a bit of a prick. Of course, if you have ever seen him acting before, you will know that this is when he is funniest, when he won't shut up and awkwardly goes on.
And on. Gervais is funny playing his same character, the rest of the movie is by the numbers.About A Boy

The movie version of this is a favorite of mine, Hugh Grant really at the pinnacle of his career playing his romcom role. Surprisingly, the book is equally hilarious. I found myself literally Loling, which I don't do that often with books. The author, sidelined only a bit by one of his favorite topics, suicide, does an excellent job finding the voices and thoughts of Marcus and Hugh Grant. Really, very much worth a read.
Religulous
Nowadays, unless you watch one on PBS, all documentaries are hopelessly biased, much in the vein of the reality component of "reality" television. So this movie was real enough, but it really was Bill Maher presenting his views on the three biggest religions. It is a bit of a primer on atheism and agnosticism, but mostly it is Bill asking biting questions and then not really waiting for an answer from his subjects. It is amusing to see him make fun of religious hypocrites, but by far more fascinating was when he spoke to people who were intelligent and prepared and could answer back, like the theme park Jesus and the two priests from the Vatican.Nick and Norah's Infinite Play-list

I am totally the demographic that goes to movies about quirky kids meeting other quirky kids and working out their problems to a indie rock soundtrack. This movie however, was incredibly boring. This was a romantic comedy without any comedy. Also, the romance was pretty stale too, there was no growing rapport or love, just a lot of purposely awkward silences. Also, I can't believe that he left his ex-girlfriend on the side of the road at 3am. That was horrible. Also, every single location they went looking for that stupid band, I had been to, go me.

So I read some interviews with the director, Oliver Stone where he talks about how he rushed this out before the election to show off what a criminal and douche that Bush was. And I didn't get that at all, I came away from the movie mostly feeling sorry for the guy... so, fail, I guess? Also, Josh Brolin looks great in a blue suit.

Synecdoche, New York
Yeah, this is a bit of a mind fuck. A really long slow burn mind fuck. The movie messes with your perception of time and space. And that is before the wackiness starts. A movie about a play about the movie about the lead character's life, with the lead character being played by several other actors. Killer last line though. Fantastic roles for women, as well as the most realistic naked females I have ever seen on the big screen.
The Signal
So, a signal is broadcast over the tv and radio and phones that make people go crazy. The interesting bit, and the bit that makes it different than The Cell and 28 Days Later is that this Signal makes people sociopathically serial killer crazy. As in they act regular and normal, except they turn really paranoid and want to murder you. It leads to a lot of scenes of people trying to figure out who is crazy and who is merely reacting to the shock of everybody murdering everybody, it makes things quite tense and claustrophobic. The Signal is pretty bloody with a lot of black humor, but in the end it is a bit uneven, too much time spent with semi-crazy people trying to over-explain what the Signal is and what it does and who it has affected.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
So it is kind of like Clerks, except people are way less whiny and introspective and much less prone to conversations that feel like they are monologues. They are still very, very foul mouthed, this is some high class, very distinctive swearing. It is a bit muddled though, it switches from being about some 28 year old losers, then about making low budget porn, then about a love story and these three are pretty distinct. The movie could have used another 10 minutes to wrap up the porn bit, to find out what happens to the actors they hired and the money they needed. I did like how they kept the burning barrel in the background for half the movie. Also, Jay Mewes in his finest acting role to date, "TIME TO FUCK". Good stuff
