Review Roundup XIII
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
It would be like if Forrest Gump was something of a naive rich guy who lived a long and interesting life that touched upon many important points in American history and spent all of his life loving and longing for a woman that was a bit of a jerk and a lot of a tramp.  Oh, wait...

Also, this movie was super long, the longest part of Button's reverse life oddly being the time when he was a similar age to Brad Pitt...

Quantum of Solace
It was kind of like if Jason Bourne was rich and had a taste for the finer things in life.

World War Z

3 great things about this book.  First, there was a lot of research into disasters and survivalist thinking that went into this book, so you get a feeling how surviving the zombie apocalypse is very relatable to surviving any other disaster.

Second, he travels the world in the book in a way few books dealing with world wide catastrophes ever do.  Just like most alien invasion movies deal with people in the United States and also aliens destroying famous monuments around the world, most books deal with what a tragedy it is for America that there is a plague/robot uprising/alien infestation.  Max Brooks travels to all over the world, with stops in many places you might not even have heard of.

Third, because the whole story is told in a series of short vignettes, there is no slowing down.  Even what is usually the most boring part of any disaster fiction, the part where people take stock and get their act together was interesting, because it was told fast and from many people's viewpoints.

Lars and the Real Girl
The greatest strength of this quirky indie movie was that it managed almost completely to quash the quirkiness and show how a small town might really react to someone who has some serious mental illness.  This movie is almost completely unlike what the trailer led me to believe it would be, I highly recommend seeing this.  This was a moving, fascinating film.

Revolutionary Road
It is kind of like what would have happened if Jack had managed to find a suitcase to float on in the end of Titanic and gotten married to Rose.  Apparently, it would have been like a really depressing version of Mad Men: The Movie.
